My favorite light weight day pack - REI Flash 18 Pack

I rarely do gear reviews.
But when I come across something I really like,
I have to share it with you all.

It can be hard to find a day pack that is light weight or a quick day hike, or easy to fit in a suit case. A lot of them are bulky and take up way too much room in my carry on suitcase. When I was flying to Puerto Rico and wanted a bag to throw in my suitcase, I could not find anything that was small enough to fit in my carryon, yet big enough to carry what I needed.

One day, I was getting ready to go on a day hike, and was so unsatisfied with my bag options. My Osprey bag is great, but too big and bulky for an easy day hike. My running camelbak is a good option for size and weight, but doesn't have room to hold anything besides keys and water, and I like to bring snacks, my camera, and some things for Olive.

And then I dug through our closer a little further and found this bag sitting at the bottom.  It was a gift to Thatcher from his brother and looked like exactly what I needed.  Light weight with pockets and room for my phone, keys, goPro and camera, and super light.  It had a chest strap and weight strap for heavier loads, and even had an insert to add in a camel bak.  It was the perfect size to throw in everything I needed, without carrying my big osprey bag.

REI Flash Pack 18  - great day pack for only $34.95

And the best yet? It rolls into virtually nothing, making it a perfect option for packing in your suitcase when you are flying somewhere you need to keep your suitcase light but still have a solid day pack.

And then I looked up the bag and found that although they no longer sell my model, the newer model is nearly identical with so many fun colors and its only $34.50And you know how awesome REI is, they stand behind their brand, and their products.

  3. I have two daypacks that I usually use for short trips, but I have to admit the REI Flash 18 Pack is quite handy. I like the fact that it converts into a stuff sack when turned inside out. Great review! Check out more daypack options here: http://wildernessmastery.com/camping-and-hiking/the-best-daypack-for-short-hikes.html
